About the School of
The School of Social Work is characterized by training specialized professionals who are able
to respond to social problems, capable of applying techniques and tools of social management.
Having more than 25 years of academic trajectory, we have positioned ourselves as a reference
in Guatemalan social work.
The achievements and national recognition of the academic programs of the School of Social
Work, have been possible thanks to the efforts of the academic and administrative team led
from the direction of the School.
Our primary goal is to train professionals committed to the promotion of development and
social justice on the basis of the effective fulfillment of human rights, solidarity and
equity, applying knowledge to convert it into actions that contribute to the welfare of
individuals, families and vulnerable groups. The graduate profile states that the
professionals should be able to become part of the social reality, to observe and record
social phenomena, as well as to apply techniques for the knowledge of such behaviors and
identify needs, for this reason they should carry out research, use techniques such as
interviews and other data collection instruments with a dynamic and proactive attitude.
Currently, we have a renewed curriculum, which was the result of an exhaustive theoretical
review, where the main professional axes have been carefully placed along the curricular grid.
More emphasis has been placed on the theoretical and methodological reinforcement of social
work. In addition, we have incorporated new courses that respond to new intervention
scenarios, especially in the fields of work with children and youth, immigrant populations,
social policies and protective systems.
The academic programs offered are: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at the undergraduate level
and at the graduate level: Master's Degree in Management of Social Protection Systems.
