Career description

The objective of the program is to train highly trained specialists for the prevention and treatment of low, medium and high complexity dental malposition disorders in the child, adolescent and adult population, including disorders of maxillofacial growth and development, functional and articulate, in all socioeconomic strata, taking into account the cultural and ethnic plurality and the circumstances that characterize the Guatemalan population.

What will you learn during the program?

- Know and apply the evidence contained in the scientific literature, cutting-edge theoretical and technical knowledge in the execution of clinical procedures for the treatment of dental, functional, skeletal and joint malposition problems in children, adolescents and adults, including disorders growth and maxillofacial development.

- Participate with ownership, efficiency and adherence to ethics, in interdisciplinary work groups and research projects that involve prevention, diagnosis and treatment actions.

- Make a comprehensive diagnosis to execute a comprehensive treatment plan in functional orthodontics.

- Learn and apply different fixed orthodontic treatment philosophies: Roth, MBT, FACE, etc.

- Learn and apply different treatments in interceptive orthodontics, removable appliances, orthopedics and corrective orthodontics, lingual orthodontics, self-ligating orthodontics and orthodontics with aligners.

- Management of Interdisciplinary Orthodontics with emphasis on the specialties that are more related to Orthodontics, such as surgery, orthognathic surgery, periodontics, endodontics, implants, temporary anchorage devices (mini screws, plates).

- Execution of equipment in the laboratory area.

The applicant for the master's degree in orthodontics must meet the following requirements:

- Be of legal age.

- University graduate, with a degree in dentistry.

- Possess prominent knowledge, attitudes and ethical values.

- Good management of computer programs.

- Technical domain of dental equipment and materials.

- Domain of the clinical patient.

- Proficiency in the English language.

- Possess a passport and ideally an American visa (the latter, not essential).

- Economic solvency and availability of time to pursue a full-time master's degree.
